Who we are
Our Mission
In the surrounding area of Štip, Macedonia, there are several schools for students with special needs that need resources and attention. While there have been remarkable advances in disability resources in the last 20 years, toys designed with the needs of children with disabilities in mind are still hard to come by. The organizers hope that by bringing attention to this community it will give teachers and students new activities to bring to the classroom and help promote tolerance, compassion, and further integration. Almost all of the gifts found on our Wish List have been backed by Lekotek Services which for the last 50 years has done incredible work in the field of disability advocacy and accessibility. Their recent collaboration with Toys "R" Us has resulted in one of the best online catalogues for kids with special needs to-date.

Stip, Macedonia : This week 19 boxes of specialized toys for people with disabilities will be distributed at several schools and centers in the Stip, Macedonia region. Americans donated a total of 94 toys using an online Toys "R" Us "Wish List" from the "Differently-Abled" section of the toy company's website. The idea came from US Fulbright student Katie Bachmeyer and her fiance Eric Lynch, both from Cincinnati, OH, who hope to raise awareness about the community for people with disabilities in and around Macedonia. Bachmeyer is a current English teaching assistant at Goce Delcev University and collaborated with UGD Medical Faculty Professor Dr. Gordana Panova from Kocani along with Stip local Dejan Zafirov, director of the NGO "Gaia," to seek out schools and centers who would benefit from the donation. At 9 am on Thursday morning schools Vancho Prke and Iskra will receive toys, as well as the Dneven Center. Friday toys will be distributed to a school in Kocani and next week Damir Kapija's Institution will receive the final batch of toys. The Cincinnati based humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization, Matthew 25 Ministries covered all shipping costs from the United States for the donation. Further assistance with organizing this event came from the United States Embassy, Peace Corps Volunteers, and the company Randolph Next Day Paper. Gaia, an NGO for promoting active lifestyles for people with physical disabilities, is in the early phases of organizing a summer camp for teenagers with disabilities, with help from Bachmeyer, Lynch, and other Peace Corps Volunteers. This group will be organizing future awareness campaigns like this one and on March 22nd, Bachmeyer will be holding a public forum for all interested in discussing the topic of disability at the American Corner in Stip.
Штип, Македонија: Оваа недела ќе бидат поделени 19 кутии со специјализирани играчки за лицата со посебни потреби во неколку училишта и центри во регионот на Штип, Македонија. Американците донираа вкупно 94 играчки преку веб страната на продавницата за играчки "Differently-Abled" следејќи ја листата со желби при изборот на играчките. Идејата ја даде студентката наFulbright – програмата од САД, Кејти Бахмејер и нејзиниот свршеник Ерик Линч, двајцата од Синсинати, Охајо, кои се надеваат дека ќе ја подигнат свеста на заедницата за лицата со посебни потреби во и околу Македонија. Бахмејер работи како асистент по англиски јазик на Универзитетот „Гоце Делчев“ и соработува со професорката на Медицинскиот факултет при УГД, д-р Гордана Панова од Кочани заедно со Дејан Зафиров, граѓанин на Штип и директор на невладината организација „Гаја“ со цел да најде училишта и центри на кои ќе им биде најпотребна оваа донација. Училиштата „Ванчо Прќе“ и „Искра“, како и Дневниот Центар ќе ги добијат играчките во четврток во 9 часот наутро. Во петок, играчките ќе бидат разделени во едно училиште во Кочани, а наредната недела последниот куп играчки ќе патува во институцијата во Демир Капија. Сите трошоци за испораката на донацијата од САД ги покри организацијата за хуманитарна и помош при криза Matthew 25 Ministries, основана во Синсинати. Помош при организирањето на овој настан дојде и од Амбасадата на САД, волонтерите од мировните корпорации и трговското друштво Randolph Next Day Paper.
